For all elementary-aged skiers (2nd-6th grade) who wish to learn how to cross country ski, improve their skills, or simply stay active through the winter. The focus is on having fun on skis while learning and mastering the fundamental skills of cross country skiing.
Format: Beginner skiers and advanced skiers will all do part of each session together but we will divide into groups based on skill level and age. Group size is never larger than 1 coach for every 10 athletes and frequently we will have 1 coach for every 5 athletes. Instruction is based on a learn-by-doing philosophy. We utilize lots of games, drills, and challenges to teach children fundamental skills and the basic ski techniques.
Special Information: Youth Rec is offered 3 days/week with the expectation that not every athlete will be able to make every practice. We hope the athletes and families will see this as an opportunity rather than an obligation – more chances to ski with the team! Come as often as you can but the pricing for the full Youth Rec Program is based on an average of 2 days/week over the season.
11/1/2017 - 3/4/2018 with no practice December 20-24 (16 Weeks or 45 Sessions)
Wednesdays and Thursdays: Leave town 4:15pm and return at 7:15pm. Or meet at the Nordic Lodge at 5:00pm (session ends at ~6:30pm).
Sunday Leave town 1:00pm and return at 4:00pm, from town. Or meet at the Nordic Lodge at 1:45pm (session ends at ~3:15pm).
Come as often as you can but we don’t expect anyone to be able to make all the sessions all year long.
(Note – The Nordic Lodge at Bogus Basin closes at 4:30pm on Monday and Tuesday, so to facilitate the season gear lease that many of our Youth Rec families use, we need to run our mid-week practices on Wednesday and Thursday.)
Dryland Before the snow falls we run our practices in-town at Camelsback park from 4:1 5-5:45. For the first three weeks of November, practices are Tuesday/ Thursday at Camelsback. We take a brief break for Thanksgiving. (November 19- December 6)
